273 William Higgins

Biography

Right half William Higgins was born in Rutherglen on the southern fringes of Glasgow, as a teenager he played junior football for Blantyre Celtic and was a regular choice for the Lanarkshire representative XI. In June 1933 he transferred to Rutherglen Glencairn, a side that provided a stream of players to Hull City in the early decades of the club. Higgins moved to Hull City in June 1934 and started the first five league fixtures of the 1934/35 season, until the signing of Lincolnshire man Harry Miller meant Higgins lost his place.

William returned to Scotland in May 1935 and played for Blantyre Celtic but further details of his junior career are not confirmed. He died in April 1989.
