Biography
Right sided attacking midfielder Mohamed Belloumi joined the Tigers in August 2024 from Portuguese Liga Nos side Farense, signing a four year deal.
Mohamed El Bachir Belloumi was born and raised in Mascara, a sizeable Algerian city 30 miles south of the Mediterranean coast. His father Lakhdar Belloumi was a decorated international footballer and manager who won 100 FIFA-recognised caps for his country, played in the 1982 and 1986 World Cup Finals and won the African Footballer of the Year award in 1981 – he spent over 20 years playing for various clubs in Algeria despite approaches from giants such as Barcelona and Juventus.
Mohamed played junior football for his local club GC Mascara before heading 50 miles west in August 2020, signing for Algerian Ligue 1 side Mouloudia Club of Oran, generally known as MC Oran. He progressed rapidly at his new club, making his senior debut in January 2021 against CR Belouizdad and scored his first senior goal a month later against Biskra. By the end of the 2021 season he had scored three goals in 31 appearances.
In February 2022 he transferred to Portuguese Liga 2 side SC Farense and spent the remainder of the 2022/23 season playing for the Under-23 side. He made his senior debut for the club in November 2022 in a Taca de Portugal cup tie against Leixoes and made two further senior appearances before returning to the Under-23s as Farense finished second in the table and won promotion to Liga Nos. The 2023/24 season saw Belloumi become a regular first team presence from the off, he scored his first goal for his new club against Chaves in August 2023 and ended the season with seven goals as Farense consolidated in mid-table. He made three further appearances for Farense at the start of the 2024/25 season, taking his tally to three goals in 41 appearances, before his move to Hull City at the end of August 2024.
In February 2021 Mohamed played for the Algeria Under-20 side during the 2021 Under-20 African Cup of Nations, scoring one goal against Tunisia in 4 appearances. He played for the Algeria A team against Liberia in June 2021. In October 2023 he was selected for the Algeria senior squad for two friendlies against Cape Verde and Egypt, though he remained on the substitutes’ bench for both matches.
