Biography

Pacy winger David Akintola joined the Tigers in August 2025 following his release from Turkish side Caykur Rizespor. He played an important supporting role in the opening weeks of the season, which culminated in a vital early October 2025 winning goal against local rivals Sheffield United.
Babajide David Akintola was born in Oyo, a sprawling university city in western Nigeria. He played football in his teenage years for FC Ebedei, a team based in Sagamu, a city 70 miles south of his birthplace. FC Ebedei was a feeder club for Danish top flight side FC Midtjylland and in November 2014 Akintola made the move to Herning in central Denmark. After scoring regularly for the under-19 side, David made his first team debut for Midtjylland in a September 2015 Cup tie against Naestved BK, adding his Danish Superliga debut a month later against Brondby IF. Between January and June 2016 he had a loan spell at Danish second tier side Thisted FC before returning to Midtjylland and making a third senior appearance for his parent club.
In March 2017 David was loaned to Norwegian second tier side FK Jerv, making his debut in April 2017 against Floro SK and winning a regular first team start during the 2017 season. He scored his first senior goal against Fredrikstad in August 2017 and a month later he scored a hattrick against Tromsdalen. When he returned to Denmark at the end of 2017 he had scored nine goals in 29 appearances for Jerv. In February 2018 Akintola returned to Norway, joining Eliteserien side FK Haugesund on a season-long loan where his fine form continued as he scored nine goals in 34 appearances. In February 2019 he spent a third season on loan in Norway, joining Rosenborg BK where he scored eight goals in 36 appearances that included two goals in the UEFA Champions League against Northern Irish side Linfield and Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.
While still registered for Midtjylland, Akintola continued his loan odyssey in January 2020 when he joined Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia, where he made 7 appearances. In September 2020 he joined Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor on a season long loan, playing regularly throughout the 2020/21 season and scoring seven goals in 37 appearances. His seven year spell at Midtjylland ended in June 2021 having made just 3 senior appearances for the Danish side.
In July 2021 Akintola signed for Turkish Super Lig side Adana Demirspor, making his debut in August 2021 against Turkish giants Fenerbahce. He was a first team regular for two seasons but in the first half of the 2023/24 season injuries restricted his game time. In January 2024 he made his final appearance for Demirspor against former side Hatayspor, taking his tally to thirteen goals in 77 appearances.
In February 2024 David joined Turkish Super Lig rivals Caykur Rizespor and for the next season and a half he was a first team regular. In May 2025 his final appearance for Rizespor – once again against former club Hatayspor – took his tally to four goals in 49 appearances. He switched to Hull City a few weeks later.
