Biography
Versatile full back Cody Drameh signed for Hull City in July 2024, signing a three year contract. A foot injury meant he waited until late August 2024 for his first team debut.
Cody Callum Pierre Drameh was born in Dulwich, South London, to parents whose families originated from Gambia. He came through the academy system at Fulham and made his senior debut in a September 2018 EFL Trophy match against Oxford United. He added a second senior appearance in the same competition a fortnight later and became a regular for the Cottagers’ Under-23 side as the 2018/19 season progressed. He added three more EFL Trophy appearances for Fulham in October and November 2019, taking his tally for the club to five senior appearances.
Drameh joined Premier League side Leeds United in August 2020 and made his senior debut for the Whites in an October 2020 EFL Trophy tie against Barrow. Cody played in further Cup ties during the early months of the 2021/22 season and made his Premier League debut against Norwich City in October 2021. In January 2022 he joined Championship side Cardiff City on a half-season loan, making 22 appearances for the Bluebirds.
Drameh started the 2022/23 season on the fringes of the Leeds United first team and scored his first senior goal in a October 2022 EFL Trophy tie against Tranmere Rovers. In January 2023 he was again loaned to a Champiosnhip side, this time promotion-chasing Luton Town. He was a first team choice for the Hatters for the rest of the season, making 19 appearances as the club reached the end of season play-offs, defeated Sunderland in a two legged semi final then beat Coventry City in the Wembley final after a penalty shoot-out. As Luton Town headed for the Premier League Cody returned to Leeds United, who had just made the reverse move after relegation from the top flight.
Drameh started the 2023/24 season with two first team appearances for Leeds, taking his tally over four seasons to one goal in 16 appearances. At the start of September 2023 he joined Championship rivals Birmingham City on a season-long loan, at a time when the Blues were play-off contenders. A series of ill-judged managerial changes saw the Blues’ challenge fall away as the season progressed and at the end of the 2023/24 season Birmingham were relegated to League One, Drameh having made 30 senior appearances. He left Leeds United in July 2024 at the end of his contract to join Hull City.
Drameh qualifies to play for both England and Gambia. He made three appearances for England Under-19s in March 2019 while at Fulham, then added three Under-20 appearances in October 2020 (Wales), September 2021 (Romania) and October 2021 (Italy) following his transfer to Leeds United. In November 2021 he made his only appearance for England’s Under-21 side against Georgia.
