Biography

Promising young Croatian goalkeeper Ivor Pandur joined Hull City in January 2024 from Dutch Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard. He remained on the City bench for much of the remainder of the 2023/24 season, an exclusion that became a focus for controversy when manager Liam Rosenior was dismissed in May 2024 – owner Acun Ilicali made it clear that he would have preferred Pandur to start first team games ahead of Rosenior’s preference for Ryan Allsop. Pandur eventually made his senior debut for the Tigers on the opening day of the 2024/25 season against Bristol City.
Ivor Pandur was born in Rijeka, Croatia’s main sea port and third city, and was associated with his local Croatian top flight club NK Rijeka from the age of 11. He joined the professional ranks in July 2019 and made his first team debut against NK Buje in October 2019. In the second half of the 2019/20 season, which was extended into July 2020 by the COVID19 pandemic, Pandur established himself as Rijeka’s first choice goalkeeper and ended the season with 22 senior appearances. After two further league appearances for Rijeka at the start of the 2020/21 season, taking his Rijeka tally to 24 appearances, Ivor transferred to Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona at the end of August 2020 for a reported 1.9 million euro fee. He made his Verona debut in the Italian Cup against Venezia in October 2020 and after spending most of the league season on the bench he made his Serie A debut against Torino in May 2021, ending his first season in Italy with six senior appearances.
He added a further five appearances for Hellas Verona during the 2021/22 season then in July 2022 he joined Dutch Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard on a season-long loan with an option to buy in the 2023 close season. By the end of August 2022 Ivor had graduated from reserve goalkeeper on the matchday bench to first choice and made 31 appearances for Fortuna during the season. In July 2023 Fortuna Sittard exercised the option to pay 2 million euros and upgrade Pandur’s loan to a permanent move, in the first half of the 2023/24 season he added a further 18 appearances for Fortuna, making 49 in total, prior to his transfer to Hull City in January 2024.
Pandur was involved with the Croatia international setup from a young age. In April 2015 he made two appearances for Croatia Under-16s against Slovenia and USA and graduated to the Under-17 side in December 2016, making two appearances. In May 2018 Ivor made his first appearance for Croatia Under-18s against Bosnia and added three more Under-18 caps during the 2018/19 season. He was first selected for the Croatia Under-20 side in September 2019 but remained an unused substitute, eventually playing one game at this level in March 2021 against Turkiye. In September 2021 he made his debut for Croatia’s Under-21 side against Azerbaijan and proceeded to win six Under-21 caps, the last of which came against Romania in June 2023.
