Biography

Ball-playing defender Stanley Ashbee, the son of former Hull City captain Ian Ashbee, was born and raised in Hull and came through the Hull City academy from a young age. In December 2023, days after his 17th birthday, he signed his first professional contract for the club and made his debut a month later in a freezing cold FA Cup tie at Birmingham City, his father’s hometown club.

Stan qualified to play for Ireland and was involved with international camps as a teenager. making two appearances for the Ireland Under-16 side in April and May 2022 and scoring on his debut against North Macedonia. He was called up for the Ireland Under-17 squad for the first time in October 2022 but remained an unused substitute, in February 2023 he was selected against Hungary and by May 2023 he had made six Under-17 appearances. In March 2023 Stan was elevated to the Ireland Under-19 squad, playing two matches against Slovakia. He was again chosen for the U-19 squad in September 2024 and played in matches against France and Kazakhstan.
