1186 Amir Hadziahmetovic

Biography

Midfielder Amir Hadziahmetovic joined the Tigers on August 2025 transfer deadline day on a season long loan from Turkish side Besiktas and was slotted straight into the heart of Sergey Jakirovic’s midfield engine room, turning in a series of assured performances studded with fine progressive passes.

Amir Hadziahmetovic was born to parents with Bosnian heritage but his birthplace was Nexo, a small coastal village on Bornholm, a Baltic Sea island to the east of Denmark’s mainland. Amir returned to Bosnia at the age of 12 and joined the youth team setup at Sarajevo based Bosnian top flight side FK Zeljeznicar, historically the city’s railway team (Zeljeznicar means railway worker in English). He signed his first professional contract in July 2014 and made his first team debut against OFK Olimpik in August 2014. When Bosnian football returned from the winter break in March 2015 Amir was a regular first team starter and the 18 year old scored his first senior goal in May 2015 against Mladost Obarska, with Zeljeznicar finishing league runners-up a few weeks later. He began the 2015/16 season in good form and made his European bow with six appearances Europa League qualifting round appearances that ended in defeat to Belgian side Standard Liege. By December 2015 Amir had scored three goals for Zeljeznicar in 47 senior appearances.

In February 2016 Turkish Super Lig side Konyaspor paid 900,000 euros for Hadziahmetovic’s lengthy signature, he made his senior debut for his new side later that month in a Cup tie against Besiktas but waited until April 2016 for his Super Lig debut against Genclerbiligi. He became a first team regular during the 2016/17 season, playing in every round as Konyaspor lifted the Turkish Cup – he scored in the semi final first leg against Kasimpasa – alongside competing in the Europa League. Now 20 years old, Amir was a vital part of a successful Konyaspor side.

Injury sidelined Hadziahmetovic for much of the 2017/18 season and he missed the entire Europa League campaign. He was part of the first team squad during the 2018/19 season but was used as a fringe player rather than a regular starter. He won back his place in the first eleven during the 2019/20 season and for the next three seasons became a first team fixture once again. A third place league finish in the 2021/22 season saw Konyaspor qualify for the Europa Conference League and Amir scored a goal as his side lost a third qualifying round tie to Liechtenstein side FC Vaduz. By February 2023 Hadziahmetovic had scored seventeen goals in 202 appearances for Konyaspor.

In February 2023 Amir moved north from Konya to Istanbul, signing for Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas for a 3.2 million euro fee. He went straight into the Besiktas first team that finish league runners-up in June 2023 and retained his place in the side during the 2023/24 season until a knee ligament injury ended his season prematurely in January 2024. He returned to fitness at the start of the 2024/25 season and in august 2024 he joined Super Lig rivals Caykur Rizespor on a season-long loan and scored one goal in 23 appearances before he was recalled by Besiktas in February 2025. He made two appearances for Besiktas in European competitions during July 2025, which took his tally to one goal in 57 appearances ahead of his August 2025 loan move to Hull City.

Hadziahmetovic was a part of the Bosnia & Herzegovina international setup from his teenage years, playing his first match for the Under-17 side against Montenegro in March 2013 – by March 2014 he had made 10 appearances at Under-17 level. In April 2014 he made his debut for the Under-19 side and scored his first international goal against Ukraine in November 2015, by which time he had made 7 appearances at Under-19 level. By this time he had already made his debut for the Under-21s, against Montenegro in June 2015, and he scored his only goal at the level in March 2017 against Liechtenstein. In October 2018 he made the last of his 13 Under-21 appearances against Portugal.

In September 2020 Amir won his first senior cap for Bosnia & Herzegovina against Italy. A regular starter for three years, Amir won the last of his 30 caps for his country in November 2023 against Luxembourg.
