Darko Boateng Gyabi was born in Catford, South East London to parents with Ghanaian heritage. During his childhood years he played junior football for Cray Wanderers and Millwall before joined Manchester City’s academy setup in November 2018. In September 2020 he made his senior debut in an EFL Trophy tie against Scunthorpe United, adding two more appearances in the same competition during the next three months – he also played and scored regularly for Manchester City’s Under-18 Premier League side during the 2020/21 season. Over the next two months he played in further Cup ties and made his Premier League debut against former club Manchester City in December 2022.

After two early season appearances for Leeds, Darko joined Championship side Plymouth Argyle in January 2024 on a half season loan. he made his Pilgrims debut against Huddersfield Town in January 2024 but after 10 appearances his loan was terminated in March 2024 after he sustained an injury. After recovering during the summer of 2024, Gyabi returned to Plymouth Argyle in July 2024 for a season long loan that saw him miss only three league matches (two of which were against his parent club Leeds United) – he scored one goal in 48 appearances as the Pilgrims were relegated to League One. He left Leeds United for Hull City in August 2025 having made 8 senior appearances for the Whites.
