Biography
Goalkeeper Spendiff was City’s first League netminder, and was practically an ever-present for the Tigers first three campaigns. He set high standards from the off with his fearless attitude to repelling all attempts on his goal.
After cutting his teeth in the North East junior football scene, Spendiff carved his reputation on the other side of the Humber Estuary at Grimsby Town, He went on to play for a further six years at various League teams after he left Anlaby Road, ending up back at Grimsby prior to World War 1, staying with the Mariners until 1920. He had a second career as a Cleethorpes milkman before dying in 1943.
