843 Martin Reeves

Biography

Attacking right sided midfielder Reeves joined the Tigers in March 2003 for a two month loan, reunting with manager Peter Taylor who had previously signed him on professional terms at Leicester City. Reeves was a pacy attacking threat who delivered good quality crosses and scored his only Tigers goal at Swansea City on the final day of the season.

Martin Lee Reeves was born in the Old Oscott suburb to the north west of Birmingham. He began his career at Leicester City, signing apprentice professional terms in July 1997 under the management of the aforementioned Peter Taylor. He made his way through the ranks at Filbert Street and made his senior debut for the Foxes in a March 2002 Premier League match against Southampton. He remained part of the Leicester first team squad for the rest of the 2001/02 season and his March 2003 loan to Hull City was designed to give him first experience that would stand him in good stead on his return to the Foxes. However in May 2003 Leicester returned to the Premier League and Reeves’ contract was not renewed – he left the club having made 10 appearances.

In June 2003 Reeves joined League Division 3 side Northampton Town, signing a two year deal. He made his August 2003 debut against Torquay United but within two months a series of back injuries meant he had drifted out of the Cobblers’ starting eleven. He found first team action hard to come by at the start of the 2004/05 season and was released by Northampton Town in February 2005 – he made 23 appearances for the club.

Reeves then embarked on a lengthy career in the non-league scene, moving initially to National League side Aldershot where he made just one February 2005 appearance against York City. He returned to the Midlands at the start of the 2005/06 season and signed for National League North side Nuneaton Borough, contributing to a season that featured an FA Cup run that took them to a Third Round tie against Premier League side Middlesbrough, then ended with defeat in the play-offs. Reeves joined National League North rivals Hucknall Town in December 2006 before joining Southern Premier League side Brackley Town in July 2007. In July 2009 he signed for Midland Alliance side Oadby Town, where he spent several seasons helping the Leicestershire club rise through the non-league pyramid.
