1193 Toby Collyer

Biography

Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer joined the Tigers on a half-season loan in January 2026 to add midfield drive to Sergej Jarkirovic’s promotion chasing side. He arrived at the MKM Stadium with an injury that sidelined him for much of his time at Hull City, though he did show flashes of talent when he was available for selection.

Tobias Christopher “Toby” Collyer was born in Worthing on England’s south coast and played for Brighton & Hove Albion’s academy as a teenager. He was a regular for the Seagulls’ Under-18s side during the 2020/21 season and in September 2020 he was an unused substitute in an EFL Trophy tie against AFC Wimbledon. Collyer’s progress attracted the attention of other top flight clubs and in February 2022 he refused a professional contract offered by Brighton and instead accepted the contract offered by Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Toby made his senior debut in October 2022 when he played the final minute of an EFL Trophy tie against Barrow, adding two more appearances in that competition during the next two months. He added two further senior appearances in EFL Trophy ties during the early months of the 2023/24 season and sat on the Manchester United bench seven times between February and May 2024 without making his Premier League debut, while also captaining the club’s Under-21 side.

In August 2024 Collyer played in the 2024 Community Shield, which the Red Devils lost on penalties to local rivals Manchester City. A week later he captained the first team in an EFL Trophy tie against Barnsley and remained on the fringes of the first team for much of the 2024/25 season – he made his Premier League debut in September 2024 against Liverpool and played in four Europa League ties during January and March 2025. By the end of the 2024/25 season Toby had made 19 appearances for Manchester United.

In August 2025 Toby joined Championship side West Bromwich Albion on a season long loan, he made his Baggies debut in August 2025 against Wrexham but managed only two starts before a calf injury sidelined him in November 2025. His loan was terminated early in January 2026 having made 12 appearances, in readiness for his loan to Hull City.

Collyer was part of the England youth setup during his development at Brighton & Hove Albion, making his one appearance for England Under-15s against Norway in October 2019. In August 2019 he made his debut for England’s Under-16 side against Denmark, the first of seven appearances during the 2019/20 season. After a four year hiatus, Collyer made his debut for England Under-20 against Italy in October 2024, making a second appearance against Czechia a few days later and a third appearance against Switzerland in March 2025.
