1181 Dillon Phillips

Biography

Goalkeeper Dillon Phillips joined the Tigers in June 2025 on a free transfer – carded to be the backup keeper to Ivor Pandur, Dillon made his debut in the League Cup but spent the opening months of the season warming the bench.

Dillon Phillips was born in Hornchurch in Essex but from the age of seven was involved in the academy setup at Charlton Athletic. In July 2013, at the age of 17, Phillips signed his first professional contract with the Addicks and in November 2013 he joined National League South side Whitehawk on a one month loan, making 4 appearances. When he returned to The Valley Dillon sat on the Charlton first team bench for six Championship fixtures without being called upon to make his debut. A similar pattern was followed in the 2014/15 season, he sat on the first team bench twice then in January 2015 he joined National League South side Bishop’s Stortford on a half season loan, adding a further 4 appearances.

In July 2015 Phillips joined National League side Cheltenham Town, he made his Robins debut against Lincoln City in August 2015 and was an important part of the first team as Cheltenham’s slow start to the season was transformed into a league title winning term thanks to a four month unbeaten run. Dillon was injured in March 2016 and missed the closing weeks of the season as promotion to League Two was secured, but still managed 39 first team appearances.

With practically a full season of first team experience under his belt, Phillips returned to Charlton for the 2016/17 season and was a part of the first team squad for the newly relegated League One side. He made his first team debut for Charlton in an August 2016 EFL Trophy match against Southampton, a big moment for a player that had been with the club for two thirds of his 21 years. He made his League One debut against Bristol Rovers in November 2016 and ended his first season as a Charlton first teamer with 13 appearances. He was kept on the bench for most of the 2017/18 season by ex-Tiger Ben Amos as Charlton reached the League One play-offs only to lose the semi-final to Shrewsbury Town. Phillips was first choice goalie for much of the 2018/19 season as Charlton again reached the play-offs, starting all three matches as the Addicks squeezed past Doncaster Rovers on penalties to reach the Wembley final, where they defeated Sunderland and returned to the Championship. Phillips was a Championship ever-present during the 2019/20 season as Charlton narrowly avoided relegation, taking his tally for Charlton Athletic to 102 senior first team appearances.

The start of the 2020/21 season was delayed as a result of the COVID19 pandemic and in October 2020 Phillips joined Championship side Cardiff City for a fee reputed to be £500,000. He waited until February 2021 to make his first team debut for Cardiff against Bristol City but lost his place in April 2021 after a five goal thumping by Sheffield Wednesday. He continued to share first team duties with Alex Smithies during the 2021/22 season, taking his tally to 36 appearances by the 2022 close season.

In July 2022 Phillips joined Belgian Pro League side KVV Oostende on a season long loan, after making his debut in October 2022 against Royal Antwerp he amassed 14 appearances for the Belgians. At the end of the 2022/23 season Phillips was released by Cardiff City and in July 2023 he agreed to join Championship side Rotherham United on a two year deal. After making just four appearances in his first season with the Millers, Dillon was a first team regular for much of the 2024/25 season after relegation to League One. He left Rotherham in June 2025 to join Hull City having made 39 appearances for the New York Stadium side.
