923 Steven Mouyokolo

Biography

Elegant centre back Mouyokolo was signed in June 2009, completing a deal that had been drafted out the preceding January.  He worked his way into the first team gradually but by the second half of the season he was putting in towering performances in a struggling team.  He scored his only City goal in an unlikley 1-1 draw against Chelsea in February 2010.  Mouyokolo’s efforts were not enough to keep City in the Premier League and he moved on the following summer.

Born in the distant suburbs of Paris, Mouyokolo enjoyed a youth career at Chateauroux but it was only when he spent seasons at Gueugnon and Boulogne that he saw first team action.  It was his impressive form at Boulogne that encouraged City to claim his signature, amid interest from several English top flight clubs.

When City were relegated in May 2010 Mouyokolo stayed in the Premier League by switching to Wolverhampton Wanderers.  After some early first team action at Molineux, injuries limited Mouyokolo’s opportunities and he joined French side Sochaux on loan in 2011.  A cruciate ligament injury curtailed his spell in France and ultimately curtailed his senior career.  Wolves released Steven in January 2013 and he signed a contract for Glasgow Celtic the following summer.  But after only two appearances his time at Parkhead came to an end and he has not had a club since.
