Biography

Tim Iroegbunam joined Hull City on the September 2026 transfer deadline day, having been a prime target for the Tigers for several weeks before he eventually made the move – a fee of around £13 million plus add-ons secured his transfer. After recovering from a niggling injury he made his debut a fortnight later, settling the ship during the closing stages of a fine draw at Chelsea.

Timothy Emeka “Tim” Iroegbunam was born in Great Barr, a West Midlands suburb at the intersection between Birmingham, Walsall and Sandwell, to parents of Nigerian descent who were both profoundly deaf. He came through the academy system at local Premier League side West Bromwich Albion and made his senior debut at seventeen years of age, in a November 2020 EFL Trophy tie against Exeter City. In May 2021 Tim was an unused substitute in a Premier League match against Leeds United as the Baggies were relegated to the Championship – that same month he was offered his first professional contract by West Brom, an offer he refused.

In July 2021 Iroegbunam signed for Premier League rivals Aston Villa – a substantial transfer fee was later negotiated to compensate West Bromwich Albion for their development of the player. He made his senior debut for Villa in an August 2021 EFL Trophy tie against Wycombe Wanderers, in February 2022 he made his Premier League debut against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Tim spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Championship side Queens Park Rangers, his September 2022 debut against Swansea City was followed by his first goal for the Rs in February 2023 against Blackburn Rovers – he ended the season with two goals in 32 appearances. Returning to Aston Villa for the 2023/24 season, Tim was part of the first team squad from October 2023 and played in both the Premier League and the Europa Conference League – the latter saw Villa reach the semi-final and Iroegbunam was a substitute in both legs that ended in defeat to Greek side Olympiacos (a side featuring future Hull City team-mate Konstantinos Tzolakis). By the end of the season Tim had made 25 appearances for Aston Villa.

In June 2024 Iroegbunam signed for Premier League rivals Everton for a fee reported to be £9 million. He made his Toffees debut in August 2024 against Brighton & Hove Albion, an ankle injury sustained in October 2024 sidelined him for four months and he was eased back into the first team picture in the closing months of the 2024/25 season. He was a regular presence in the Everton first team during the 2025/26 season and by the 2026 close season he had made 52 appearances for the club, ahead of his move to Hull City.

Iroegbunam won international recognition during his spell at Aston Villa – in March 2022 he debuted for England Under-19 against Ireland and that summer took his tally to 6 appearances when playing in the England side that lifted the Euro Under-19 Championship, defeating Israel in the July 2022 final played in Slovakia. In September 2022 he made his debut for the England Under-20 side against Chile and scored the first of two goals three days later against Morocco – his other goal came in March 2024 against Poland, the sixth of 7 appearances he made at the level.
