Biography

Australian winger Garcia joined Hull City in July 2007, leaving Colchester United on expiry of his contract. He was a regular throughout the club’s play-off winning season and scored City’s first away goal in the Premier League at Blackburn in August 2008. He stayed at City for five seasons, suffering two serious injuries that curtailed his appearance count. Garcia was a constantly positive presence in the City team, involved in most of the good moments during the tumultuous first Premier League spell.
Born in Perth, Western Australia, Garcia moved to London at the age of 15 when West Ham United lured him to the club’s youth setup. He played a few games in both the Premier League and the Championship for the Hammers, but in four seasons was never a first team regular. A move to Colchester United rectified that and in three seasons Garcia became renowned as one of the Championship’s most potent wide players.
Garcia’s contract at Hull City expired in June 2012 and he returned down under, playing single seasons for Melbourne Heart and Sydney FC. In 2014 Garcia had a brief spell at Minnesota United in the North American Soccer League foreshortened by a lack of work visa, and he returned to Perth Glory where he ended his career in 2017. In 2018 he was appointed assistant coach at Perth Glory, two years later in September 2020 he replaced Tony Popovic as Head Coach. he was sacked in March 2022 after a poor run of results, in May 2022 he was appointed assistant coach for the Australia Under-23 mens’ team.
Garcia was an Australian international for four seasons, making his debut in 2008 while at the KC Stadium and amassing 23 caps and 2 goals.
