800 Julian Johnsson

Biography

Faroe Islander Johnsson joined the Tigers in the 2001 close season from Norwegian league side Sogndal. His arrival created an immediate positive impression – he was tall, strong, tackled, passed and created. He even scored a few goals too – the full package. He dominated games at times during his sole season at City, but in the end he returned to the Faroe Islands a year later because his wife couldn’t settle in the East Riding metropolis. He was a good player, so that was a shame.

Johnsson began his football career at HB Torshavn in the Faroe Islands league but by the time he was 20 he signed for Danish side Vejle, only to return to Torshavn a year later and sign for B36. He then spent three seasons in Norway before joining the Tigers.

Johnsson returned to Scandanavia to complete his playing days, then embarked on a coaching career at various clubs in the Faroe Islands and Denmark.

Johnsson is one of the Faroe Islands’ most decorated international players, having won 62 caps and scored four goals between 1995 and 2006.
