42 Arthur Temple

Biography

A centre forward, inside forward and occasional stand-in full back, George Arthur Temple signed in 1907 from a junior team in Wallsend, part of a regular flow of players from the banks of the Tyne to the banks of the Humber. For five years Temple was a near ever-present up front for the Tigers contributing 16 or more goals in four of those five seasons. A hattrick scored against Leicester Fosse in 1907 is reputed to have earned him a lucrative sponsorship deal in the shape of a new overcoat. He missed the entire 1912/1913 season due to a serious knee injury, during the season Temple chalked up five years with the club and a service benefit yielded him a handsome cash sum of £175. He returned in 1913/14 in a support role before he moved back north to Blyth Spartans.

Temple died in 1959.
