Biography

Versatile full back Brandon Williams joined Hull City in August 2025, having been a free agent for over a year before joining Sergey Jakirovic’s pre-season training on trial a month earlier. He made his debut as a late substitute in August 2025 but had to wait patiently for further game time as he built his fitness and watched fellow full backs Ryan Giles and Lewie Coyle shine in the first team.
Brandon Paul Brian Williams was born in the Harpurhey district of Manchester and was part of Manchester United’s academy system from the age of 8 onwards. He rose through the academy and in April 2018 he signed his first professional contract for the club at the age of 17, having spent the 2017/18 season playing regularly for the red Devils in the UEFA Youth League and the U18 Premier League. He captained the U18 Premier League during the 2018/19 season and at the start of the 2019/20 season he was part of the first team squad.
Brandon made his senior debut for Manchester United in an August 2019 EFL Trophy match against Rotherham United and by October 2019 he was starting Europa League matches against AZ Alkmaar and Partizan Belgrade and came on as a late substitute against Liverpool to make his Premier League debut. In November 2019 he scored his first senior goal against Sheffield United. He remained in United’s first team squad for the remainder of the 2019/20 season and became a key part of the Red Devils’ first team setup, starting both legs of the League Cup semi-final against Manchester City in January 2020, and the July 2020 FA Cup semi final against Chelsea that was delayed by the COVID19 pandemic – both semi-finals ended in defeat for Brandon’s team.
In August 2020 he signed an extended contract for Manchester United but was confined mostly to bench duties for much of the season. In August 2021 Williams joined Premier League side Norwich City on a season long loan. He was a regular starter throughout the season as the Canaries slumped to relegation by May 2022 – Brandon made 29 appearances for Norwich City. Back at Manchester United for the 2022/23 season he was out of the first team picture and made just one senior appearance in the League Cup against Burnley.
In August 2023 he joined newly promoted Championship side Ipswich Town on a season long loan – days later he was involved in a high speed car crash at Handforth in Cheshire. He started the 2023/24 season in fine form, scoring goals against Huddersfield Town and Preston North End but by December 2023 he was sidelined as charges related his car crash affected his game – Brandon was driving erratically at 100mph and without insurance while his passenger was breathing in nitrous oxide from a balloon. His final appearance for Ipswich Town in December 2023 took his tally for the Tractor Boys to two goals in 17 appearances.
Returning to Manchester United, Williams was ostracised by the club and released at the end of his contract in July 2024 – Brandon scored one goal in 52 appearances for the club. In March 2025 he was handed a 14 month suspended jail sentence as a result of his car crash seventeen months earlier, spending the 2024/25 season without a club. After a trial with Hull City during the July 2025 pre-season tour of Turkiye Brandon returned to professional football when he signed for the Tigers in August 2025.
In September 2019 he was selected for England’s Under-20 squad made 4 appearances over the next five weeks. In October 2020 he won his only cap for England Under-21 against Andorra.
