1175 Lincoln Henrique

Biography

Attacking midfielder Lincoln Henrique joined the Tigers on a half-season loan on the January 2025 transfer deadline day and made his debut three weeks later in a fine win at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, playing a largely supporting role from the bench over the subsequent weeks.

Lincoln Henrique Oliveira dos Santos was born Porto Alegre, a coastal city in southern Brazil built on a delta formed where five rivers form a natural lagoon before entering the Atlantic Ocean. He joined Gremio, the Brazilian top flight club based in his home town, as a youngster and signed his first professional contract in 2014. He made his senior debut for Gremio in January 2015 against regional rivals Frederiquense and netted his first senior goal in an April 2015 Copa de Brasil tie against Campinense-PB. He became a regular presence in the Gremio first team squad during the 2016 season, often providing services from the substitute bench – he was an unused substitute in the December 2016 Copa de Brasil final second leg against Atletico-MG that saw Gremio lift the trophy. This form continued into the 2017 season when he added another 21 appearances in the first half of the season.

In September 2017 Lincoln headed to Europe and Turkish second tier side Caykur Rizespor on a loan deal that extended to May 2018, the end of the 2017/18 European season. He assisted Rizespor as they lifted the Turkish First League title in May 2018, scoring three goals in 20 appearances – all three goals came in a March 2018 hattrick against Gazientepspor. Lincoln returned to Gremio in July 2018 and added one further appearance. He headed out on loan again in September 2018, this time to Brazilan Serie A rivals America Mineiro where he made just 3 appearances during the remainder of the 2018 season. Lincoln was marginalised by Gremio in the opening months of the 2019 season and made just 2 appearances, taking his tally for the club to five goals in 64 appearances.

In July 2019 Lincoln signed for Portuguese Primeira Liga side Santa Clara. He quickly became a first team regular in an attacking midfielder role after making his debut against Belenenses-SAD in August 2019. Lincoln assisted Santa Clara to three top half finishes in three seasons, scoring in the January 2022 Taca de Portugal semi-final that saw Sporting Club de Portugal prevail and playing in six Europa Conference League ties during July and August 2021. By May 2022 Lincoln had scored nine goals for Santa Clara in 110 senior appearances.

In July 2022 Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce paid 3.5 million euros for Lincoln and he made his July 2022 debut for Fener in a Champions League Qualifying tie against Dynamo Kyiv. He was a first team regular until a cruciate ligament injury ended his season early March 2023. After recovering from his injury and returning to Fenerbahce’s senior squad in January 2024 he added one goalscoring appearance in the Turkish Cup to take his tally to three goals in 36 appearances. In February 2024 he joined Brazilian top flight side Red Bull Bragantino on a season long loan, after making his February 2024 debut the Massa Bruta against Sao Bernardo he scored six goals in 49 appearances and proved his restoration to full fitness. His final game for Bragantino came in December 2024 against Criciuma, he joined Hull City on loan a few weeks later.

Lincoln attracted the attention of the Brazilian national team in the 2014/15 season, playing three matches for Brazil’s Under-17 side in November 2014 against Australia, England and USA – he scored in each of the first two of those fixtures. A year later, after a September 2015 friendly against South Korea, he added four more caps during October 2015 in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup finals played in Chile, captaining the side and scoring against Guinea to take his tally to three goals in 8 Under-17 appearances.
