Biography
Buccaneering winger Jason Lokilo joined Hull City in July 2023 following his release by previous club Sparta Rotterdam and made a promising debut in an otherwise disastrous League Cup tie against former City manager Grant McCann’s Doncaster Rovers side. He was a useful if somewhat low octane first team support player for the first half of the 2023/24 season, scoring his first goal for the Tigers in a January 2024 FA Cup tie at Birmingham City. Despite breaking his duck, a fortnight later Lokilo joined Portuguese Primeira Liga side FC Vizela on a half season loan and scored once in 11 appearances as the Northern Portuguese side were relegated to the second tier.
Jason Eyenga Lokilo was born in the Belgian capital Brussels to parents with Congolese heritage. He spent his teenage years playing academy football for Anderlecht before moving to England and joining Premier League side Crystal Palace in July 2015. After two years playing academy football for the Eagles he made his senior debut in an August 2017 League Cup tie against Ipswich Town, and was also an unused substitute for a handful of Premier League matches. In August 2018 he joined French Ligue 2 side FC Lorient on a season long loan, during which he made six senior appearances as well as adding seven matches for Lorient’s B team. Jason returned to Crystal Palace for the 2019/20 season but found no further first team opportunities, in January 2020 he joined English League One club Doncaster Rovers on a half season loan though he managed only one appearance in February 2020 against Wycombe Wanderers.
In June 2020 Lokilo, who had been released by Crystal Palace, signed a one year deal at Doncaster Rovers. He was a first team regular during the 2020/21 season, making 39 appearances and scoring his first and only senior goal for Rovers in February 2021 against Fleetwood Town. Lokilo left Doncaster in the 2021 close season after failing to agree a contract extension, in September 2021 he joined Polish Ekstraklasa side Gornik Leczna where he scored three goals in 29 appearances during the 2021/22 season. In June 2022 Jason transferred to Dutch Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam and scored once in eight appearances between August and November 2022, in January 2023 he joined Turkish Super Lig side Istanbulspor on loan and scored four goals in 16 appearances during the remainder of the 2022/23 season. In July 2023 Lokilo agreed to terminate his contract with Sparta Rotterdam, freeing him to join Hull City a few days later.
In July 2024 Lokilo joined Bulgarian top flight side CSKA Sofia in return for a 400,000 euro fee – he made his CSKA debut in August 2024 against Spartak Varna.
Lokilo was born to parents that hailed from the Democratic Republic of Congo. In October 2015 he represented DR Congo at Under-17 level in a 0-8 defeat to England.
