Biography

Teenage midfielder Xavier Simons joined the Tigers on a season long loan on the August 2022 transfer deadline day. He spent time finding his feet in the City Reserves and in October 2022 he made his first team debut as substitute against Birmingham City, then started an FA Cup tie against Fulham three months later. By February 2023 he had agreed to join Hull City on a permanent deal and was handed a first team shirt at the base of the Tigers’ progressive close-passing midfield.
After inhabiting the fringes of the first team at the start of the 2023/24 season, Simons joined League One side Fleetwood Town in August 2023 in order to develop his game through regular first team football. He suffered injuries that hampered his progression but did score one goal in 15 appearances for Fleetwood as they were relegated to League Two.
Returning to Hull during the summer of 2024, Xavier began the 2024/25 season as first choice defensive midfielder in Tim Walter’s new all-out attacking system and scored his first goals for the club in consecutive October 2024 matches against Burnley and Derby County. However when Walter was replaced by Ruben Selles Simons drifted out of the first team picture. In January 2025 he joined League One title challengers Wycombe Wanderers on a half-season loan.
Xavier Levi Simons was born in Hammersmith and came through the academy system at Brentford before switching to Chelsea at the age of 13. He progressed through the Blues’ academy and made his Chelsea Under-18s debut in May 2018. In September 2019 Simons made his senior debut in an EFL Trophy tie against Bristol Rovers but it was another two years before he returned to the Chelsea first team, making four more EFL Trophy appearances and adding a League Cup appearance against Brentford in December 2021. After 25 youth team appearances for Chelsea during the 2021/22 season he joined Hull City on loan in August 2022.
Simons played for England at numerous youth levels, playing for the Under-15s against Netherlands in December 2017 and the the Under-16s against Croatia in July 2018. In September 2019 he made three appearances for England’s Under-17s, scoring on his first appearances against Finland. In March 2022 he rose to the England Under-19 side, debuting against Ireland and making three appearances. In May 2023 he progressed to the England Under-20 squad when selected to travel to Argentina for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup and playing in three matches.
