Biography

Young striker Ben Hinchliffe, the nephew of ex-Tiger and former England international Nick Barmby, made his way to the professional game via City’s academy and sat on the bench during several Premier League fixtures during 2016 before making his first team debut in August 2017 at Doncaster Rovers. In March 2018 he joined Gainsborough Trinity on loan and was released by City the following May, having made a solitary first team appearance.
In 2019 he signed for NCEL side Barton Town and scored 19 goals in his first season on the south bank of the Humber. He scored three more goals in the 2020/21 season before COVID-19 bought the lower leagues to a premature halt. When non-league football returned Ben continued to perform for the Lincolnshire side, notching 16 goals in the 2022/23 season – taking his tally over four seasons to 63 goals in 126 appearances.
In June 2023 Ben switched to ambitious North East Counties League side Beverley Town and announced his arrival in grand style, scoring two hattricks in pre-season friendlies against Hedon Rangers and Goole AFC. He carried that goalscoring form into the 2023/24 season as Beverley Town won promotion at the end of the season after play-off victory over Shirebrook Town was secured in a penalty shootout. However he left Town in the 2024 close season and went without a club for several months.
