1025 Omar Elabdellaoui

Biography

Right back Elabdellaoui was reunited with Marco Silva when he signed for the Tigers on loan from Silva’s last club, crack Greek outfit Olimpiacos.  After a couple of months in the first team Omar developed a back injury, around the same time as the gutter press revealed a story about social media indiscretion.

Born in Norway to a family that hailed from Morrocco, Elabdellaoui joined Manchester City as a 16 year old but failed to break into the first team despite confidence building loans to Norwegian side Stromsgodset, Dutch club Feyenoord and Germany’s Eintract Braunschweig.  June 2014 saw Elabdellaoui sign for Olympiacos, where he was a first team regular until Marco Silva departed. After his loan spell at Hull City he was a regular first team presence for the Athens side. He transferred to Turkish Super Liga side Galatasary in August 2020 and made 13 appearances in a first season that ended early after an accident with a firework kept him out of the game for over a year. He returned to first team action in February 2022 and took his Galatasaray total to 21 appearances before leaving the club in August 2022.

In January 2023 Elabdellaoui, now returned to Norway, joined Eliteserien side Bodo Glimt and made his debut for the league leaders against Brann in April 2023. By the end of the 2023 season he had made 14 senior appearances for the Norwegian League champions.

Having played at all junior levels, Elabdellaoui made his senior international debut for Norway in August 2013 and became the country’s club captain in the latter years of the 2010s.
