Biography
Hull-born striker Peter Nicholson was raised by a farming family in Melton between North Ferriby and Brough. He came to the professional game in his early 20s, having played for local non-league sides. He joined Hull City from Kingburn Athletic in September 1959 and spent the 1959/60 season playing for the Reserves at weekends while spending his weeks teaching craftsman skills to Army recruits in faraway Hampshire. On the first day of the 1960/61 season he got his chance, making his first team debut at centre forward with another debutant, a seventeen year old Chris Chilton, playing inside right. City lost 0-4 against Colchester United, Nicholson lost the number 9 shirt to Chilton, Nicholson never played for City again and Chilton went on to become the club’s record goalscorer.
Nicholson left City in February 1961 and played for Barton Town, living in central Hull for many decades. He died in an Anlaby nursing home in March 1998.
