Biography
Goalkeeper Basso remains best known to City fans for flapping haplessly at Dean Windass’ Wembley play-off master-volley against Bristol City in 2008, Basso was glovemanning for the Robins that day. However three years later he joined the Tigers on a one year contract, playing a number of early season games before suffering a season-ending thigh injury.
Brazilian born Basso hailed from Jundiai, a medium sized dormitory city north of Sao Paulo. By his early twenties he was a first team regular at Ponte Preta and Atletico Paranaense before he left Brazil and headed for England. After a failed trial at Arsenal he had spells in the Home Counties non-leagues before joining Bristol City in 2005. He had five years at Ashton Gate, the first four were successful but the fifth was soured by a contract wrangle. He had a single season at Wolverhampton Wanderers before joining City.
Following his release by the Tigers he disappeared for a number of years, re-emerging during 2016 in his early 40s with short spells at Truro City, FC United of Manchester and Hartlepool United as player and goalkeeper coach. His latest appearances in late 2017 were at Radcliffe Borough.
