1023 Evandro Goebel

Biography

Midfield grafter Evandro was Marco Silva’s first signing when he took the reins at Hull City, having worked with him previously in Portugal.  Goebel was tidy and reliable on the ball and showed a pleasing desire to put in a tackle – but somehow his game seemed a tad less than the sum of its parts at the Premier League level.  He outlasted Silva but hardly played during his second season due to injury and spent much of his time back in Brazil.  However he buckled down in his third season and spent the season fulfilling a first team support striker role, although his season was affected by niggly injuries.  Evandro left the club in May 2019 on expiry of his contract and returned to Brazil, signing for Santos FC.

The Brazilian enjoyed a five year career in his native country, often on loan, before he plunged into a European career with a move to Serbian side Red Star Belgrade.  He then moved to Portugal, firstly Silva’s Estoril then Porto, before signing for the Tigers in January 2017.

After a year at Santos he left the club in June 2020, having made 21 appearances and scored once against Chapocoense in December 2019. It was therefore fitting that Evandro joined Chapocoense in September 2020, where his seven appearances assisted Chapeco side to the Brazilian Second Division title in February 2021. With that title secured, Evandro announced his retirement from playing.

Goebel played for Brazil in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship. He held dual Brazilian and Serbian citizenship.
