987 Conor Townsend

Biography

Defender Townsend was a product of City’s youth system and stayed on the club’s books for five years, but only made one senior appearance for the club in 2013.  He had numerous loan spells in the lower leagues during his time at City and turned out to be and understandable “one that got away” during City’s too fliggt successes.

Conor left City in Summer 2016 and signed for Scunthorpe United, where he quickly established himself in the matchday squad.  Within two seasons City were offering a six figure sum to reclaim Townsend’s signature, who had no doubt benefitted from the tutelage of left back extraordinaire Andy Dawson while at Scunthorpe.  However West Bromwich beat City to Conor’s signature and he became an important part of the Baggies first team squad in the Championship and the Premier League, extending his contract at The Hawthorns in March 2021 and captaining the side in the closing weeks of the 2022/23 season.

In August 2024 Townsend signed for newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town, with the Baggies receiving a £750,000 fee.
