966 Nick Proschwitz

Biography

German targetman Proschwitz joined City in July 2012 having had a productive season with up and coming German side SC Paderborn 07.  As well as rendering the drei und dreizig shirt notorious, Proschwitz scored a handful of important goals that precipitated City’s promotion to the Premier League, although in truth it was Nick’s inability to fully adjust to the English game that was the main memory of most City fans.  With the Tigers elevated to the top flight Proschwitz’s first team chances were sparse, although he did score a FA Cup goal in his final game at Middlesbrough.

Born in the small shoemaking town of Weissenfels in the rural east of Germany, Proschwitz had a varied junior career before signing his first contract with Hoffenheim at the age of 18.  Spells in the second teams of Hamburg, Wolfsburg and Hannover followed.  Nick then moved to Leichtenstein’s outstanding team Vaduz, who play in the Swiss League, in 2009 where he made his first impressions as a first teamer.  A significant goal haul at Vaduz led to transfers to Swiss side FC Thun and German side Paderborn, for whom he scored plenty of goals.

Following his two years at Hull City, which ended with a loan spell at Barnsley, he switched to Brentford but a year later he had returned to Germany and re-signed for Paderborn.  Within six months he was on the move again after being accused of exposing himself during a night out, and he spent the last part of 2015/16 and all of 2016/17 at Belgian side Sint-Truidense.  In early September 2017 Proschwitz signed for Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam before returning to Germany in 2018 to play for SV Meppen and Eintracht Braunschweig.  In 2021 he moved to Bundesliga.1 side Hoffenheim where he played mostly for the second team competing at Regionliga level befoer retiring in the 2023 close season.

In July 2023 Proschwitz joined the staff at TSV Hoffenheim, becoming assistant coach for the Under-16 academy side. In September 2023 he joined Verbandsliga Nordbaden side VfB Eppingen, scoring one goal in 5 appearances while combining gamedays with his Hoffenheim coaching duties. He ended his playing days in July 2024 to focus on his coaching duties.
