Biography
Midfielder Akpan joined City at the age of 19 in March 2011 on a two month loan. He played only two games and made no lasting impression.
Liverpudlian Akpan joined Everton as a child and progressed through the ranks to make his senior debut in 2009 in a Europa League tie. Following his loan to City, Hope was released by Everton and he joined Crawley Town. After a season and a half in the first team at Broadfield Stadium he signed for Reading where he again became a regular starter. He moved back north in 2015 signing for Blackburn Rovers, after two seasons at Ewood Park he joined Burton Albion on a free transfer in July 2017. In July 2018 he moved on again to Bradford City.
Akpan’s parents hailed from Nigeria and he chose to represent the Super Eagles in 2013, making his senior international debut a year later.
