944 Brad Guzan

Biography

Goalkeeper Guzan joined City on loan at the end of December 2010, an initial one month stay extending to two months.  A couple of weeks after his return to parent clubs Aston Villa, Guzan was loaned again for a third month.  Throughout this spell he turned in assured displays for the Tigers and has since been greeted warmly by the City faithful.

Born in the windy city of Chicago, Guzan played college soccer for the South Carolina Gamecocks (not a typo…) before etsbalishing himself in the professional game at Chicago Fire then Los Angeles-based Mexican-influenced Chivas USA.  After three successful seasons in MLS Brad headed across the Atlantic to sign for Aston Villa.  When he came to the Tigers in early 2011, Guzan had been at Villa Park for two and half years but his first team opportunities had been rare.  In the Summer of 2012 he was released by Villa, then promptly re-signed, and Guzan’s fortunes were turned around completely when he swiftly established himself in the first XI, winning the 2012/13 player of the season award.  He had another season as number 1 choice before being benched again in 2015.  In 2016 Guzan signed for Middlesbrough, but within twelve months he headed Stateside again and joined Atlanta United.

Guzan made his senior international debut for the United States in 2006 and amassed over 50 caps despite sharing the gloves with Tim Howard.
