893 Nicky Featherstone

Biography

Youth product Featherstone, a protege of Nicky Barmby, emerged in the City first team midfield in 2007, but his first team chances were severely limited by the Tigers’ first ever two year spell in the Premier League.  He left the club in January 2011 after only a handful of first eleven starts across four and a half seasons.

Nicky had already amassed lower league experience during loan spells while at City.  When he left the Tigers in early 2011 Featherstone joined Hereford United and spent a season and a half at Edgar Street that ended with relegation from the Football League.  Two seasons at Walsall were followed by short spells at Scunthorpe United and Harrogate Town.  In October 2014 Nicky signed for Hartlepool United, where he remained for many years and attained legendary status with the North Easterners through sheer longevity. After temporarily left Pools in July 2023 after amassing nearly 400 appearances for the club, but re-signed weeks later to extend his time at the Victoria Ground into a second decade, combining playing and coaching duties from May 2024. In July 2025 Nicky was awarded a testimonial match as Leeds United visiting the Durham Coast for a pre-season friendly, then continued to play a support role for the Pools first team during the 2025/26 season. His final appearance for Pools against Boston United in Sepetmber 2025 took his tally over twelve seasons to 26 goals in 449 appearances.

In October 2025 Nicky was appointed caretaker manager at Hartlepool United after the dismissal of Simon Grayson, after compiling a seven match unbeaten run Nicky was appointed permanent manager in December 2025, at which point he announced the end of his profilic playing career.
