Angolan international defender Marques made a single City appearance at the end of the 2005/06 season, prior to playing for his country at the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals..
Born in Luanda, the capital of Angola, but raised in Portugal, Marques was a youngster at Benfica drifted through the Swiss and German lower leagues in his early 20s before coming to prominence at vfB Stuttgart and Maritimo. He joined Leeds United in 2005 and spent the remainder of his career at Elland Road, retiring in 2010.
Marques won 21 senior caps for Angola’s Sable Antelopes between 2006 and 2010, encompassing the 2006 World Cup finals and both the 2008 and 2010 African Cup of Nations.
