Biography

Midfield battler Welsh joined the Tigers in August 2005 on a season long loan. After impressing in the first team City signed him permanently in January 2006 with promising youth teamer Paul Anderson going the other way. His first season saw him play regularly but he was a fringe player in 2006/07 and broke his leg in March 2007, an injury that kept him in the treatment room for nine months. Welsh never played for City again, spending two seasons being loaned out to lower league clubs in an attempt to relocate his form and fitness.

League One side Tranmere claimed his signature and in three seasons he played practically every game and dominated games regularly. in 2012 he switched to Preston North End and returned to the second tier for six seasons. Injuries were catching up with Welsh by 2018 and he moved on the Grimsby that summer.
