862 Roland Edge

Biography

Edge joined City as auxiliary left back in July 2004, deputising ably for Andy Dawson over a season and a half without showing any signs of deposing his rival defender. He was released by City in January 2006 after struggling with a long term injury.

Born and raised in Gillingham, Edge joined his local side as a youngster and spent three seasons in the Gills’ first team. In 2003 he headed north to Hibernian before joining the Tigers a year later.

Edge’s injuries led to the end of his professional career, and returning to Kent he played for Folkestone Invicta and Maidstone United. Between 2010 and 2022 Edge was a stalwart on the coaching staff at Folkestone Invicta, rising to assistant manager and in December 2022 taking the role of joint first team manager alongside Micheal Everitt. Edge and Everitt were both dismissed in November 2023 after a run of three Isthmian League defeats.
