Biography

Elegant right back Marshall joined City on loan in January 2004 to assist Peter Taylor’s side to the summit of League Two and eventual promotion. He performed his role well but suffered a compound leg fracture in a challenge at Kidderminster Harriers in April 2004, an injury that ended his professional career.
Lee Keith Marshall was born in North London and cut his teeth at Isthmian League side Enfield in the mid-1990s, making 26 appearances for the first team after making his debut in January 1995 while just 15 years of age. In March 1997 at the age of 18 he joined the professional scene, transferring to League Division 1 side Norwich City in return for a fee that could have been worth as much as £200,000. He made his debut against Bury in November 1997 and by the start of the 1998/99 season Marshall was first choice right midfielder in Bruce Rioch’s Canaries side, scoring his first senior goal in September 1998 against Barnsley. He spent another two seasons at Carrow Road and by March 2001, when he made his final appearance against Preston North End, he had scored 13 goals in 131 senior appearances for Norwich City.
In March 2001 Marshall transferred to Premier League side Leicester City, who were managed by Peter Taylor, the Foxes paying a £600,000 fee. He made his Premier League debut on April Fool’s Day 2001 against Charlton Athletic and remained in the Foxes’ first team picture during the 2001/02 season after Dave Bassett took on the manager’s role and the Foxes were relegated to League Division 1.
After starting the first game of the 2002/03 season against Watford, taking his tally for Leicester City to 48 appearances, Lee returned to the Premier League and signed for Gary Megson’s West Bromwich Albion side in August 2002 for a £700,000 fee. After one goal in 10 appearances for the Baggies between August and October 2002 – that goal against Leeds United in August 2002 was the Baggies’ first ever Premier League strike – Lee dropped out of the first team squad and had not played a first team match for over a year when he was loaned to the Tigers in January 2004.
Having ended his playing career in April 2004 and spending several months recovering from his broken leg, by 2005 Marshall was living in Hertfordshire and coaching at local non-league side Broxbourne Borough.
In February 1999 Marshall won his only England Under-21 cap, coming off the bench in the 88th minute to replace Matthew Upson in a match against France.
