Biography

Welsh defender Price signed for Hull City in July 2001, initially on a three month trial that was quickly extended to a two year contract. Born in Wrexham, he came through the ranks at Everton without troubling the Toffees’ first team. He was used sparingly by Brian Little during the 2001/02 and fell way down the pecking order when a night out culminated in Price requiring rescue after falling into Hull Marina. When Jan Molby took over the reins in 2002/03 he showed Price more favour and gave him his first start for the Tigers in a dismal 1-3 defeat at Exeter (the side he had made his City debut against 12 months earlier). Molby was soon moved on, and when Peter Taylor took over he rapidly decided that Price’s talents were not sufficient, choosing him only once in an Associate Members’ Cup tie squad peppered with youth teamers and fringe players then loaning him out to North Ferriby and Barnet. Price’s contract was terminated in January 2003.
Price joined North Ferriby United in February 2003 but within a month he had joined Conference side Scarborough. He stayed at the Seadogs for the 2003/04 season, playing regular first team football for the first time in his young career. Scarborough finished in mid-table that season and enjoyed an improbable run in the FA Cup, beating Doncaster Rovers, Port Vale and Southend United to set up a Fourth Round tie against Chelsea that was settled by a John Terry goal in front of 5,379 fans – Price was involved in the previous rounds but not the Chelsea match. In March 2004 he had a month’s loan at fellow Conference side Leigh RMI, then in June 2004 he signed for North Ferriby United where he gave four years of good service. Subsequent spells at Hall Road Rangers, Frickley Athletic, phoenix club Scarborough Athletic and Goole AFC drew his career to a close.
While at Everton Price played at Under-16 and.Under-17 levels for Wales, before making his debut for the Wales Under-21 side in 2001 against Ukraine. Price made 13 appearances for the Under-21s in total, three while at Everton, five while on City’s books and the remaining five while at Scarborough, captaining the side in his later appearances.
