Biography

Tall teenage centre back Bennyworth was raised locally and schooled in Cottingham, making his way through the City juniors in the late 1970s. He made his first team debut in the last day of the 1979/80 season and made two further appearances in the Anglo Scottish Cup before leaving the Tigers in the 1981 close season.

Bennyworth went on to enjoy a lengthy career in the non-league and lower league scene. He spent three seasons at Gainsborough Trinity before switching to Nuneaton Borough in 1984. Two years later he joined a Scarborough side that nine months later were elevated to the Football League from the Conference. After two and a half seasons in the Fourth Division with Scarborough, Bennyworth joined Hartlepool United in December 1989, making his debut for Pools, and scoring, against Scarborough. Two years later Bennyworth returned to Gainsborough Trinity then ended his playing career at Boston United.

Bennyworth maintained a day job for a travel agent throughout his early years in football and when he ended his football career he began working in the travel ticket technology industry, rising to Director of Operations for Hull firm eGlobalfares.
