55 Archibald Musgrave

Biography

Cumbrian inside forward Archibald Musgrave signed for City in May 1909 and spent two seasons at the club, playing occasional first team games and failing to score. He left the club in 1911 and returned to his Cumbrian roots.

Archibald Musgrave was born in Carlisle and cut his teeth in Cumbrian junior football before joining Lancashire Combination side Carlisle United in September 1905, representing Westmoreland County in January 1906. He dropped back into the local league scene in March 1906 before joining Workington for the 1908/09 season and scoring 30 goals, form that attracted the attention of Hull City amongst others.

On leaving the Tigers he had an unsuccessful trial at Grimsby Town and briefly served Southport Central before returning to Carlisle United. By 1939 he was widowed, living back in Carlisle with his three sons and working as an engineering labourer. He died in Carlisle in February 1964.
