Biography
Giant goalkeeper Ronald “Ron” Capewell stood at six foot and four inches but when he joined the Tigers in July 1954 injuries were getting the better of him. He stayed at Boothferry Park for one season and made only one senior appearance.
Born in Sheffield, Capewell started his career at non-League Kiveton Park but signed for Division One side Sheffield Wednesday in 1950 after his demobilisation from National Service. He played half a season in the Wednesday first team during the 1952/53 season and stuck around for one further season, making a total of 30 senior appearances for the Owls before his move to Hull in July 1954.
In July 1955 Capewell joined Midland League side King’s Lynn but an unhappy season led to a move a year later to Midland League rivals Goole Town, managed by former Hull City trainer George Lax. Four seasons at Goole where followed by a two season stint at Hyde United and Ron’s playing days ended in the 1962/63 season with Stalybridge Celtic and Mossley.
Ron died in Sheffield in August 2016.
