406 Jimmy Lee

Biography

Left back Jimmy Lee joined the Tigers in October 1948 but it wasn’t until 18 months later that he made his first team debut, such was the surfeit of capable defensive choices available to City at that time. He stayed around for the best part of a further season in which he made no further first team starts, leaving in February 1951.

Rotherham born Lee played for Wath Wanderers as a youngster but as with so many players of his age, World War 2 hampered his ability to progress in the professional game. Lee played wartime matches for Wolverhampton Wanderers and stayed with the Molineux side until 1948, but made no senior appearances.

Lee joined Halifax Town on leaving the Tigers, and finally made his mark as a first team player. Within eight months he was snapped up by Chelsea where he stayed for three years, but again was not able to break into the first team. He saw out his career at Leyton Orient, Swindon Town and Hereford United.

Lee settled in Hereford once his playing days ended and died there in May 2001.
