Biography

Goalkeeper Peter Atkinson joined City on amateur terms in May 1947 after impressing during trial appearances for the Reserves. He started the last three games of the 1946/47 season, one of nine men to make their debut that month as City sought to rebuild the squad following the World War Two shutdown.

Peter signed professional terms for 1947/48 season and made three more starts in October 1947, but was transfer listed in January 1948 left the club in the 1948 close season.

Peter Atkinson was born in Middlesbrough and played for successful ICI works team Billingham Synthonia prior to his move to Hull City.

Peter joined North Eastern League side Stockton in August 1948 but left the club a year later. Atkinson returned to Middlesbrough later in life and died at just 48 years of age at the end of 1972.
