Biography
David Craig Logie Davidson, sometimes known as Craig as well as David, was born at Douglas Water in Lanarkshire, a rural mining community south of Lanark in Southern Scotland. He played football in his late teens for Lanarkshire League side Douglas Water Thistle while working as a delivery driver’s mate. His work duties regularly took him to Hull and in the autumn of 1946, with the English Football League having recently resumed after World War Two, Davidson contacted the Tigers and asked to be given a trial. After appearing in a November 1946 friendly game against a Polish Army XI, Davidson was taken on by the Tigers and he made his debut on Boxing Day 1946. A winger able to play on either flank, Davidson was mostly deployed on the right during the remainder of the 1946/47 season and contributed four goals including a match-winning brace at Oldham in April 1947.
David started four of the first seven League games in the 1947/48 season but then fell out of favour as new signings Martin Reagan on the right and Alec Bloxham on the left came to the fore. He was transfer listed at the end of December 1947 and after an unsuccessful trial at Crystal Palace in January 1948 he left the Tigers for good in the 1948 close season. However his legacy lived on because in March 1947 David arranged a trial at City for his 14 year old brother Andy “Jock” Davidson, who went on to become City’s leading appearance maker. Indeed when Jock was suffering from homesickness in the late 1940s, it was his brother David who did much to convince to stay in Hull – a massive service to the football club, as it turned out.
David joined Scarborough on loan in March 1948 then signed for the Midland League club in the 1948 close season. His spell on the East Coast soon ended and he returned to Scotland to work as a sub-postmaster. Later in life he returned to Hull, which is where he died in March 1996.

Lovely man great character in the team at city with my dad and later in life my golf buddy have so many memories of him and his brother Andy who also played golf with us and I could never understand a word they were saying most of the time , it was the Scottish accent
