Biography

Merthyr Tydfil-born outside left Glanville Jones came to the Tigers’ attention while playing Forces football during World War Two. When Jones was demobilised from the Royal Air Force in the summer of 1946 he joined Hull City for the resumption of the Football League. He made seven appearances for City during the course of the 1946/47 season but was unable to hold down a first team place and left the club in the 1947 close season.
In August 1947 Jones signed for Division Three South side Bournemouth. It wasn’t until September 1948 that he made his Cherries’ debut, scoring against Reading. He added two more goals until dropping out of the Bournemouth side in December 1948 having made nine starts. In March 1949 he joined Crewe Alexandra where he made ten starts and scored once against New Brighton in April 1949. Jones joined Southern League side Weymouth in August 1949 as one of four professional players. He stayed on the Dorset coast and died in Poole in December 1956 at the tender age of just 35.
