Biography
Young outside left Sydney Sims was an employee at Hatfield Main Colliery near Doncaster who had played football for Hatfield Main Colliery and Thorne Colliery prior to joining Hull City in December 1934, following a failed trial at West Bromwich Albion. Sims was thrust straight into first team action by the Tigers over the 1934 festive period while still on trial, starting against West Ham United. He signed a professional contract in early January 1935 and started two more games, drawing his first team career to a rapid close. Sims left the club in the 1935 close season.
He later played for Scarborough and Peterborough United before returning to South Yorkshire to play for Ollerton Colliery up until the start of World War Two, while also working as a coal miner. He remained in the Doncaster area and died at the age of 60 in April 1975.
