Biography
Outside right George Stott joined Hull City in May 1932 and when the new season began in August 1932 Stott was selected for the first four fixtures. However the September signing of Londoner Fred Forward bumped Stott out of the first team picture and he remained a reserve player until leaving City in the 1933 close season.
George Rae Burns Stott was born in North Shields to a dock labourer father and a fish hawker mother who hailed from London. He began playing for Percy Main Amateurs as a teenager, switching to local rivals Preston Colliery at the end of the 1924/25 season. In the summer of 1925 he moved to South Yorkshire to play for Yorkshire League side Monckton Athletic, a colliery team playing at Royston near Barnsley. By November 1926 he had attracted the interest of local Football League side Barnsley and he spent a season and a half at Oakwell before transferring to Rochdale in July 1928. In three seasons at Spotland Stott scored 38 Division Three North goals, before moving on to Bradford City in the 1931 close season. In his one season with the Bantams Stott made only seven starts prior to joining the Tigers.
In September 1933 Stott signed for Macclesfield Town, and a year later he switched to Frickley Athletic. He ended his playing career in 1935 and returned to live in Barnsley where he worked as a timber worker in a local colliery. He remained in Barnsley for the remainder of his days, dying in February 1963.
