Biography
Charlie Wrack was an experienced centre half who joined Hull City in May 1931 as the Tigers attempted to build a squad capable of lifting the club out of Division Three North. His place in the squad was quickly removed when City signed another experienced centre half, ex-England international Jack Hill. Wrack played only a handful of games during his only season, leaving in the 1932 close season.
Born in Boston, the Lincolnshire Holland town on the Greenwich meridian, Wrack played for local sides Boston West End and Boston Town in his early 20s. In 1923 he joined Cleethorpes Town and two years later entered the Football League with Grimsby Town. Wrack served the Mariners for six years, mostly in defence but occasionally filling in as centre forward, captained the side in 1927/28, contributed to the club’s promotion to Division One in 1929 and received a benefit match in 1931. He made 125 league appearances before joining Hull City.
In August 1932 Wrack returned to Boston Town, signing for Louth Town a few weeks later.
Wrack died in Cleethorpes in April 1979.
