Biography

Inside forward Patrick Francis Lee was born in Uddingston, a town east of Glasgow on the River Clyde, and began his career at local amateur sides Uddingston Rep and prominent Glasgow-based Scottish junior league side Vale of Clyde. Lee joined Hull City in June 1925 and quickly found his way into the City first team, scoring his first goals for City in a 4-0 victory over Southampton in September 1925. By October 1925 he was not involved in the first eleven through he did return to play intermittently during the rest of his first season, primarily at right half. In the 1926/27 season Lee was a less regular first team presence, although he did get five consecutive starts during September 1926, repeating his feat of scoring twice against Clapton Orient, this time in a 4-0 victory. He left the Tigers in the 1927 close season.
In June 1927 Lee joined Division Three North side Accrington Stanley and for three seasons he served the Lancashire side at left half, scoring four goals in 119 appearances. He was transfer listed by Accrington at the end of the 1929/30 season but by August 1930 he was granted a free transfer and able to embark on a continued footballing career in Ireland and Scotland. He joined Dublin-based side Dolphins in October 1930 after a brief trial at Division Three North side Southport that yielded two senior appearances. Pat served Dolphins for two seasons before joining Irish League side Ballymena for the 1932/33 season.
In July 1933 Pat joined Scottish League Division One side Dundee, between August 1933 and February 1934 he scored ten goals in 26 appearances for the Dark Blues before dropping out of the first team and leaving by mutual consent in March 1934, ending the season playing a handful of games for Hamilton Academical. In August 1934 he joined rivals St Mirren on trial but within a month he had moved on to Highland League side Inverness Caledonian. He served the Inverness side until May 1935, having joined the coaching staff in the latter part of the 1934/35 season. In January 1936, without a professional club, Lee was given permission to rejoin the amateur ranks which resulted in him joining Renfrew-based works side Babcock & Wilcox, where he saw out his playing career.
After football he returned to his roots and lived in Strathaven, a few miles south of his birthplace, where he died in March 1981.
