Biography

Exciting striker Louie Barry joined Hull City on a half season loan in January 2025 to add pace and goals to the Tigers’ campaign to avoid relegation under Ruben Selles.
Louie Mark Barry was born in the leafy environs of Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands suburbs to parents of English and Irish heritage. He was involved with the academy at West Bromwich Albion throughout his childhood and sat unused on the first team bench for an October 2018 EFL Trophy tie against Blackpool, while just fifteen and a half years old. In July 2019 his reputation was such that he elected to turn down an approach from French side Paris St Germaine and joined the academy at Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona, a move that didn’t endear him to Baggies fans. His time at Barcelona was shortlived, in January 2020 he returned to England and joined Premier League side Aston Villa for a fee of around £800,000, a remarkable sum for a sixteen year old.
Louie made rapid progress at Aston Villa and made his senior debut in an October 2020 EFL Trophy match against Fleetwood Town, then in January 2021 he started in an FA Cup tie against Liverpool and scored Villa’s goal in a 1-4 defeat. During the 2020/21 season he was a prominent goalscorer in Villa’s Premier League 2 side, netting twelve goals including a hattrick against Norwich City Under-21, and was also pivotal in Villa’s FA Youth Cup campaign, which ended in a May 2021 victory in the final against Liverpool – Barry struck five goals including a hattrick against Burton Albion’s youth side.
Eager to develop further despite his tender years, Barry commenced a series of loan spells designed to ready him for first team football at the highest level. In August 2021 he joined League One side Ipswich Town on a season-long loan, debuting for the Tractor Boys against Burton Albion in August 2021. He made only 6 appearances for Ipswich and in January 2022 his loan was terminated early so that he could join League Two side Swindon Town for the remainder of the season – Barry scored six goals in 16 appearances for the Robins. In July 2022 Barry joined League One side Milton Keynes Dons on a season long loan but he managed only one goal in 32 appearances for the struggling Dons. In January 2023 his MK Dons loan was cut short and he joined League Two side Salford City for the rest of the 2022/23 season, scoring two goals in 21 appearances including both legs of the end of season playoffs, where the Ammies lost out to Stockport County.
This experience clearly left a mark on Barry because in July 2023 he joined Stockport County, who had lost the play-off final and remained a League Two side, on a season-long loan. He began the 2023/24 season in tremendous form, scoring in seven consecutive league games during August and September 2023 as the Hatters rose to the promotion places. A hamstring injury meant Barry missed five months of the season, when he returned to first team action in April 2024 Stockport were on the verge of securing automatic promotion – Louie scored nine goals in 22 appearances during the 2023/24 season. In August 2024 Barry returned to Stockport County, now a League One side, for a second season-long loan and scored an impressive sixteen goals in 24 appearances. In December 2024 it was announced that his loan was to be terminated by Aston Villa on the first day of 2025 so that he could join a Championship club on loan, which turned out to be Hull City.
Barry was recognised by the England international when he was 14 years of age, playing five times for the Under-15 side between December 2017 and April 2018, scoring seven goals including an April 2018 hattrick against Czechia. Elevated to the Under-16s for the 2018/19 season, Louie debuted against Croatia in July 2018 and scored seven goals in 10 appearances – in November 2018 he also made 1 appearance for Ireland’s Under-16 side against Wales, exploiting his dual nationality. In the 2019/20 season Barry made 7 appearances for England’s Under-17 side, scoring four goals. In March 2021 he made his sole appearance for England Under-18s against Wales.
