1158 Chris Bedia

Biography

Tall striker Chris Bedia joined Hull City in August 2024 on a season-long loan.

Chris Vianney Bedia was born in the Cote d’Ivoire’s largest city Abdijan and moved to France as a youngster, coming through the academy ranks at French Ligue 2 side Tours. After impressing for the Tours B team, Chris made his senior debut in a September 2014 Ligue 2 match against AC Arles-Avignon and scored his first senior goal in May 2015 against US Creteil-Lusitanos. After spending much of the 2015/16 season back in the B team, Chris returned to the senior side in February 2016 and scored four goals in 11 appearances, taking his senior tally for Tours to five goals in 20 appearances.

In July 2016 he joined Belgian Pro League side Royal Chareroi SC and was the club’s main centre forward for the 2016/17 season, netting six times. He remained in the first team during the 2017/18 season but struggled for goals and in August 2018 he joined Pro League rivals Zulte Waregem on a season long loan, making 17 appearances.

In August 2019 Bedia was loaned out again, this time to French Ligue 2 side Troyes where he scored three goals in 23 appearances during the 2019/20 season. The 2020/21 season saw Chris loaned out for a third time, in August 2020, to another French Ligue 2 side Sochaux where he made a better impression, scoring twelve goals in 38 appearances including a brace in a March 2021 Coupe de France tie against top flight giants Olympique Lyon. He began the 2021/22 season back in the Charleroi first team squad and by January 2022 had taken his tally to nine goals in 85 appearances during five and a half seasons at the Belgian club.

In January 2022 Bedia joined Swiss Super League side Servette and returned to regular first team action. After an injury lay-off between August and November 2022 Chris recovered and turned in a string of impressive performances, scoring braces against FC Sion and Grasshoppers Zurich and ending the 2022/23 season with twelve goals – he also started in the April 2023 Swiss Cup semi-final that Servette lost on penalties to FC Lugano. His form continued into the 2023/24 season, scoring sixteen times in the first half of the season including two strikes in the Europa League against SC Sheriff and AS Roma. When he left Servette in January 2024 he had scored 31 goals in 68 appearances for the club.

In January 2024 Bedia joined German Bundesliga.1 strugglers Union Berlin in return for a two million euro fee and scored once (against VfL Bochum) in 7 appearances as his new side narrowly avoided relegation. He joined Hull City in August 2024 ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season.

Bedia won international honours in his younger days at Tours – in October 2013 he made 4 appearances for the Cote d’Ivoire Under-17 side in the FIFA U17 World Cup played in the United Arab Emirates. In March 2015 he made 3 appearances and scored two goals for the Under-20 side in the U20 Afrika Cup tournament – he added a fourth Under-20 cap and a single Under-23 for Cote d’Ivoire in May 2015.
