1139 Tyler Morton

Biography

Midfielder Tyler Morton joined the Tigers on the August 2023 deadline day, on a season long loan from Premier League side Liverpool. He made his debut two weeks later against Coventry City, creating a late equalising goal and quickly established himself as a calm and progressive presence in Liam Rosenior’s first eleven. In November 2023 he scored his first Tigers goal against Swansea City and was a vital part of City’s midfield, which meant his questionable red card on New Years Day at Sheffield Wednesday left a significant temporary gap in the first eleven. He returned to play an important role alongside Jean Michael Seri that propelled City to the fringes of the play-offs, only to fall agonisingly short on the closing day of the season – in Tyler’s case, repeating the close-but-not-quite season he had a year earlier at Blackburn Rovers..

Tyler Scott Morton was born in the Wallasey district of Birkenhead and was involved in Liverpool’s academy system from the tender age of 7. After impressing for the Reds’ Under-18s and Under-23s sides he signed a long term professional contract in January 2021 and began mixing with the first team squad. After involvement with the first team during 2021/22 pre-season fixtures Tyler made his Liverpool debut in August 2021 when he started an EFL Trophy tie against Rochdale. His Premier League debut came in November 2021 against Arsenal and over the following three weeks he started Champions League ties against Porto and AC Milan. By the end of the 2021/22 season Morton had made 11 senior appearances for the Reds.

Tyler spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Championship side Blackburn Rovers, impressing with his hard working creative style as the Lancashire side narrowly missed out on qualifying for the end-of-season play-offs – he made 46 appearances for Blackburn in all competitions.

Morton won his first international honours in November 2021 when he debuted for England Under-20s against Portugal, by the end of the 2021/22 season he had made three appearances for the Under-20s. In September 2022 he twice sat on the England Under-21 bench in matches against Italy and Germany before making his goalscoring Under-21 debut in November 2023 against Northern Ireland, then gave a man of the match performance when winning his second Under-21 cap against Azerbaijan in March 2024.
